I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Hyderabad) in Oct 2017
Interview
Pre screening + five interviews on the day
Pre screening : very easy .. project u have done, phone screen session.. very basic sql problem.. I have done it in python.. very much impressed and called for in house interview
Firstinhouse round : problem solving.. very young. But arrogant .. easy round.. interviewer moved from one question to another at random with out any clarity.. most times he contradicting with what he himself has said..
Second round: repeat of the phone screening with the same guy..
Third round : the best probably..interviewers were decent and had clarity on what they require.. rigourous testing on Data preprocessing...
Pythons.. executed well... sql.. executed well for some limit d cases.. R did not even try..
What the interviewer expected as R+SQL ..what I deleivered is Python + limited SQL..
Fourth.. : again an arrogant guy walks in with t shirt and shorts.. may be straight out of the bed,,.. I guess he must be using the same dress for at least 2 years.. it was such faded...out.... interviewer was very disinterested.. asked the same question again like the first few guys,..
Result was negative for me.
The feedback was they expect string sql guy.. and avg on problem solving..
Some imp points..:
1. Q city office was like fish market,, even if I would convert,, I would not have worked there it was such place.. much worse than tcs, Wipro,.. this office is more like for the supply chain call centre guys..
2. Jayabheri office is very gud.. fourth round happened here ..
3. Most important.. selling business intelligence roles as data scientist.. .. even if I would have converted the offer,, I would not have stayed longer here., I would only use it to increase my pay check for subsequent ventures
4. Arrogant people everywhere.. I guess because of the money they make..
5. Food was like roadside canteen.. at q city office .. I expect it to be much better in jayabheri office.
6. The only point in having multiple interviews is to check whether u fake or not.. it has nothing to do with quality of interview.. in short,. The level of difficulty is the same for all interviews..
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Amazon (New York, NY) in Sep 2017
Interview
First interviewer cancelled interview 15 mins AFTER the original scheduled time. Pushed to next week, but the job description is gone. HR called to explain saying that I need to get rematch to a different team if I pass the interviews.
Second interviewer asked some basic machine learning questions without going deep into anything. Then ask me a very ambiguous question about how to predict products that can be sold next month. Then coding question.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Coding: Given a bar plot and imagine you are pouring water from the top, how to qualify how much water can be kept in the bar chart.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Amazon in Aug 2017
Interview
Recruiter gave no information about what to expect during upcoming phone interviews. Technical questions in the second phone interview made it clear they were looking for someone with a different set of experiences and skills.
