Pros

Fortune 500 company. Impressive senior technical staff with high levels of appreciation for marketing. Overall professional, friendly cutlure and atmosphere in Transportation, ERA and PDD groups. With a group so large, if one is actively meeting others, it is possible to move up and to grow. The marketing group, unfortunately, seems to have no growth, no career path and directors barely keeping themselves afloat, so no care is given to the staff working.

Cons

Water group has encountered lots of change and has lost some leadership and vigor. PDD has also undergone much change loosing many talented individuals. Too many companies purchased and no full cutlure has assimilated. With the merging of all groups in one location, potential for a truly dynamic group culture, if fostered or it will result in silos. HR has proven to be meaningless, they have no authority or care, seem to just play lip service.

Pros

Breadth of abilities allows AECOM to win impressive jobs. World-wide opportunities to work on various projects. Flexible work schedule (80 hours in 9 working days = every other Friday off!)

Cons

Great quarterly results didn't translate into decent raises. We heard every quarter from our CEO bragging about how great we're doing despite the poor economy but when raises came out we were told that because of the poor economy we were only getting a 2.5% raise. If you look at the Annual Report you'll see the CEO got a bonus that was 20% bigger than the year before...how come the difficult times didn't translate up to his level when it came to compensation? Lead by example...if you're holding us to small raises, don't take a bigger bonus!

Pros

Pay seems comparable to other engineering firms in region. Access to a lot of engineering software now with global integration of computer networks/licensing deals.

Cons

Extremely high turnover even in an awful economy, I decided to quit after about 1/3 of my office had been laid off and another sixth had quit to seek employment elsewhere within a two month period. Even though there was still high turnover before the recession. Layoffs seemed to occur at random times. Most employees felt paranoid they were next. Upper management feels very disconnected from employees and does not seem concerned about long-term growth or employee satisfaction. AECOM usually informs employees about acquisitions of engineering firms by email w/o solid explanation of how this benefits long-term growth. The company seems intent on buying out as many engineering firms to become larger than Jacobs. My particular office felt like "Office Space."
