Pros

Fast paced and cutting edge technology. Good pay and generally good people to work with.

Cons

Duplication of efforts. Too many segmented groups. It is hard to get anything accomplished with so many different groups. It seems like everyone is always running around with their heads cut off.

Pros

As a large corporation, AT&T quickly enters new markets; Upside potential of yearly bonuses & pension encourage long term employment; Size of AT&T can command favorable deals with vendors, especially in the benefits area; Heavy focus on personal accountability and delivery in co-workers; Prone to in-sourcing highly technical areas; Select teams working with all major IT technologies; Many employee concessions for high demand services, e.g. IPTV, cell, broadband, etc.

Cons

Very large bureaucracy; Extremely political management environment; Prone to outsourcing legacy technologies; Prone to divesting personnel associated with legacy technologies to an outside supplier; Very large base of 25+ years employees keeping benches warm; Extremely difficult to effectively balance Process between delivery & due diligence; Constant battles to cut the fat; AT&T preaches telecommuting to the outside world, but many internal teams limited in practice; AT&T preaches high technology products e.g. iPhones, WiFi, etc. to customers, but limited enthusiasm for employee concessions for high revenue services

Pros

This is a very Big company with a variety of work opportunities, and geographic locations. Experience at at&t looks good on a resume. It is a stepping stone to other employment. The company provides decent training opportunities. If you can find a good group, then you job satisfaction can be high, although, finding a team with good leadership, is difficult. Work can be satisfying, but again, you have to search to find a team that has good leadership, and can challenge you with work and at the right pace. Often inexperienced employees get stuck with work assignments that are too complex which is better than too boring.

Cons

There are no promotions in middle management or very few. There is no supervisor/management empowerment. AT&T leadership tends to be at 30,000 feet. Those close to work see management's numerous mistakes and even huge errors. The processes are nothing short of horrible, too much time to do anything because of trying to make single processes work for all groups and situations. Levels of approvals needed for even simple decisions go way too high. People often give up trying to actually be innovative, or to do the right thing since it usually becomes a battle against leadership and process. This poor senior management philosophy is causing many good new employees to leave as well as very talented experienced employees taking early retirements to work elsewhere.
