Pros

I could get my work done in a couple of hours and then spend the rest of the day relaxing while pretending to look busy (though this is kind of a con because I'm not lazy and would have loved to do more but you're not allowed to have any real responsibility until you have "grey hair"... yes, they actually discuss the amount of grey hair when constructing deal teams). I got to play a decent amount of golf on the company dime.

Cons

Reinsurance facing headwinds due to insurer consolidation and alternative capital. Property reinsurance doing ok but casualty getting crushed and cedents pushing back on brokerage so it's a struggle to maintain existing revenue... negative industry outlook and not an industry I'd want to be in if I'm relatively young. Little opportunity for a young broker to make an impact. If you get put in a growing office or strong team you can ride the senior brokers' coattails. If you're really lucky, the senior broker on your team leaves the company and you get bumped up that way. But really it's the luck of the draw and has little to do with you as an individual. Told me "you're doing great, stick around another 10 years and when the baby boomers retire..." LMFAO. 10 years?!? GTFO. Also, market conditions will have a bigger influence on any raise / bonus than your individual contribution - I remember years when before the year had even begun we were told there would be no raises or bonuses the coming year because of the soft market.

Pros

Very smart people, but a lot of them are leaving.

Cons

Since the acquisition, the company has been steadily declining. The SF benefits are not being grandfathered in (health insurance is getting worse and worse, for example), and the management does not have time to deal with all the issues. The messages coming from them are tone deaf. People are jumping ship left and right. It seems beyond salvageable at this point.

Pros

Starbucks on site. Adequate parking. Lincolnshire area has plenty of restaurants to wind down after work.

Cons

With all of the items I mentioned, working at the AON / Hewitt facility was awful. If you want to see bureaucracy at its best this is the place. Spend more time filling out worthless paperwork instead of building systems... oh wait annual enrollment for the entire US,
