Pros

Lots of opportunities to get involved in different causes, nonprofit work, learning sessions, fireside chats with senior leaders, and networking opportunities. You will learn a lot and you will be exposed to a lot. You can make the experience what you want it to be.

Cons

Lots of competition both at your level and management level. Lots of nepotism. People are often moved up based on likeability and backdoor agreements as opposed to qualifications/work ethic. Feedback can be skewed as an individual manager is responsible for obtaining it. Feedback should be systematic as opposed to being delivered to managers directly. Your manager can make or break your experience and oftentimes, managers are chosen based on their desires to get promoted as opposed to being qualified and supportive managers. There is a LOT of bureaucracy. Formally did not exist but now, there are a million guardrails to get things done. Qualified and competent leadership turnover and layoffs have been consistent leading to operating events because of junior less experienced employees being asked to backfill tasks formally managed by more experienced leaders. The culture of layoffs right before compensation is intimidation and does not lead to a healthy work environment. Compensation has not increased in the last few years but layoffs continue to increase. Do not work here if you want to have a personal life. It is a hard place to work and you will be expected to sacrifice a lot of time for your job. If you are not mentally or emotionally strong enough or have a lot of outside desires/obligations, it's probably not the best choice for you.

Pros

Not a single benefit of working here

Cons

Everything. The work. The management. The culture. The pay. The lack of movement out or off of your team. The power hungry managers that try to put you down just so they can feel better about their miserable lives.

Pros

I'm close with my teammates. Each team is allowed its own culture, which is a positive in my case. BlackRock is a well regarded brand which will make it easier to get a job.

Cons

- below mkt comp, 3rd quartile - not a performance culture, top performers aren't rewarded, recognized, or promoted appropriately. The most stark, and shocking, example of this is the lack of quotas in the sales org. Can you believe the sales force doesn't have quotas and isn't held accountable for not selling? - the company is constantly doing things to save costs, often at the expense of employee sanity and productivity. Examples include: cancelling software licenses yearly (adobe acrobat), forced black & white printing unless you make like 5 clicks to turn it off, lack of conf rooms, no longer offering bottled water in conference rooms, putting sensors underneath the desks in London to track the time employees spend at their desks
