Pros

This organization relentlessly strives to innovate. In spite of its size, the firm is impressively agile in detecting emerging trends in the market and adopting changes. Tons of intelligents people is a big plus. I can feel I constantly learn many valuable skill sets through interacting with them.

Cons

If you do not feel comforatable with fast changes and cannot handle stress, this firm is not your place.

Cut your teeth and get out

Pros

- commitment to excellence - employees want to do things the right way - a desire to innovate - a lot of smart minds make for cool ideas - a true fiduciary - not a vampire squid

Cons

The rudest, most aggressive employees you will ever come across in your professional life. While it's a growing company, managing an extreme amount of wealth, this comes at a horrible cost. I've never worked anywhere where people are so quick to throw another under the bus. Not a collegial environment.

Pros

BlackRock has an incredible industry reputation, high bar of achievement and work ethic and fanatic approach to productivity. The environment is focussed on revenue, expenses and projected short-term growth. Relative to what is happening in the industry, downward margin pressure and potential consolidation, BlackRock has very competitive pay and benefits.

Cons

The culture has become very top-down in terms of decision-making. The cost of getting promoted is to wait until your "taken out" politically or continue to fight another day. A company with great potential and very, very smart people but misses completely on a culture of teamwork and collaboration. Innovation is on a downward trajectory because of the culture. The compensation isn't standardized and very opaque - while it's more generous compared to industry standards, the lack of transparency and consistency creates a divisive and back-stabbing culture.
