Pros

Some really nice trainers and other departmental staff. I gained the Prince2 classification (thus the 2 stars overall). The offices are also nice but these are only invested in to promote the illusion to the business's they're attempting to contract you to, and probably for the trainers and other staff who deep-down know the business they're working for is wrong, but force themselves to stay - at least they're getting paid, right?

Cons

FDM prays on inexperienced professionals with no regards to them as a person. Whether you are a graduate, ex-military or a woman returning to work - I know how you feel - but do yourself a favor and avoid FDM.

FDM Group Response

We welcome all feedback and take it very seriously. I’m glad you like our offices and rate the training team highly. I’m sorry you wouldn’t recommend FDM though. Our business model is based on assisting graduates, ex-Forces and returners to work launch/re-launch careers. Our people are the most important asset and are our business, which is why we invest a significant amount of resources into helping people launch careers. The training period is financially funded by FDM: At that point you are training, rather than working – and the salary begins once you’re placed on a client site. It is also at that point when FDM can begin to make a return on the upfront investment that we made in you. The vast majority of FDM consultants progress to enjoy successful and lucrative careers. I’m very sorry it didn’t work out for you though. We always encourage people to post an honest review on Glassdoor in regards to their experience – which may be positive or negative (we do not ask anyone to change ratings or fiddle with them). I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your feedback further if you’re up for it. Pros

If you're a tester or developer then yes it's good. Testers fly out like flies around manure.

Cons

I was a PMO.....disgusted ....first PMO stream in Manchester and I do not have a single good thing to say. Account managers here do not deal with PMO.....so no contact. London account managers are so impotent. In their jobs they do not even know names of trainees in Manchester, they have clearly given placements to people they favour. A trainee here left .....after not being placed. An IT graduate with a Computing degree. If an IT company can't get a job for an IT grad....it says it all. This place is a joke. Took 3months to hire a new head of PMO after the former left.....not surprised he left. The structure is shocking and communication is even worse. Account managers treat you like dirt and don't email/call unless they want to.

Pros

It CAN work for some but my opinion and general opinion of everyone I know who has worked for FDM is - we wish we hadn't. If you have a good degree - your best bet is to get SCJP and other recognised certificates/grad schemes and look for entry level positions yourself.

Cons

- First off the training was absolutely horrendous. I joined as a Java trainee in London - the training materials were absolutely rubbish and just felt like a gimmick to tie me in to a contract (no way near the quality of training you would expect for the alleged "20k" that we owe). The sales guys will actually push you off to interviews before any real training which proves it'y just for show. The training is unpaid and you're expected to fund yourself for the duration. While I was there the actual process of how to get "signed off" from training wasn't even clear. I have personally known people that were there for well over 6 months. - The sales guys treat you worse than cattle. Do not believe their fake shows of empathy - they only care when it's in their interest and will treat you horribly when not. - Ultimately FDM are just like any other agency - they only line up interviews for you which you have to pass. You're better off studying on your own and obtaining proper certification instead of wasting your time in their offices unpaid. - The worst aspect is the pay. A lot of positiions are based in London which has a very high living cost. Rent would generally cost you more than half your salary (your own apartment would cost your entire salary if not more). None of this is taken into consideration despite the fact the FDM generally charges their clients close to the average contractor day rate (which is a lot). - Expect to be bullied and intimated - it's a way of life here. Senior management will treat you like dirt - not going into details but just a heads up. You will not get ANY respect. - Before you do sign up - ask to see the actual employment contract before you go on site. You will realise how much you are being exploited.
