      Good place if you want stability!

      Pros

      Very stable, can move to various positions within company. Good work life balance. Great benefits. Good place for women. Management is supportive of career development.

      Cons

      A bit of an old, slow moving company. There seems to be a lack of organic innovation. IBM's strategy is oftentimes just acquire the competitor.

      Great benefits package, excellent initial compensation, great management and executives, good internal resources (intranet), lots of technical communities, lots of diversity communities

      Cons

      IBM, being a huge company, has a very rigid promotion structure and it can be difficult to reward employees who excel at their jobs. For example, the promotion cycle runs only once and year and if an employee misses that opportunity for promotion, it is very difficult to receive a promotion out of cycle. A lot of employees move around between companies (i.e. Accenture, KPMG, etc) to speed up the promotion cycle and increase salary more rapidly. Additionally, there is a lot more administrative busy work, certifications, conduct guidelines, etc than you will experience at a smaller, private firm.

      Pros

      There are quite a lot of projects to be worked on and flexibility in working on other projects. There are a lot of intelligent people there for advice on all sorts of ideas and technologies.

      Cons

      There is a lot of bureaucracy for doing processes in a specific way. A lot of approvals need to take place before anything can be done, and information regarding anything HR related is difficult to find.
