Pros

Excellent benefits, training, ability to work in different cities for this company.

Cons

When McGladrey (now RSM) aquired the wonderful, boutique CPA firm of Margolis Phipps & Wright, they began cleaning house. Close to 50% of the employees are no longer there because those who did not fit RSM's cookie cutter employee type either left or were fired. A lot of talented people are now at other firms.

Pros

The pros are no better than working at any other public accounting firm. I'd actually say they have less pros than competing firms.

Cons

Training resources are non existent for relevant information. They over kill on new hire or administrative training but offer little to no training options when it comes to matters that will help you perform better or assist your clients. Very cheap firm. They will not pay for anything without a long hassle. They do not allow you to pick your career path although they advertise it. You have to learn a multitude of different softwares just to do one thing. IT is terrible and has a huge turnaround because it is so behind when compared to other firms. Overall I would not recommend this firm. I've worked at a number of firms ranging from top 5 national to regional firms and this firm falls at the bottom of the list.

Pros

- the people ( ground level ) because obviously you’re going through something together - work flexibility : if you really don’t want to do a job , you can talk to manager or partner and get out of it . Likewise if there is an industry you want to try , if you ask , you will be given - timeline flexibility : we should always meet deadline but if you manage client and partner well, it’s not a die die need to sign at that date - double promotion : if you perform it’s an express train - lots of weird people so there’s lots of interesting stories in the rumour mill. That is until you are part of the story lols - it has good reputation among big 4 hirers : when recruiters from big 4 hear you are from rsm , they know you are capable because you have gone through rsm - super steep learning curve : you are going to do the whole audit process. Everyone is expected to know how to do the whole process. The higher your rank , you will do jobs that has more fee but that doesn’t necessarily mean the job is more complex because fees are based on negotiating power of the manager / partner. So you can be an assistant who knows how to do conso or a senior who don’t know .

Cons

- depending on who your boss is , people are not necessarily being promoted based on merit - bond is ridiculous, I don’t think anyone should be bonded because the company give training . If that is the case, staff should be able to choose not to attend training - people : this is about luck , not saying all people who don’t leave rsm are weird but just saying most of them are. - the salary , recently adjusted to be competitive with other mid tier firm but it took a pandemic to make that happen - workload : the salary just don’t meet the workload allocated . Before I left , I was going 3 group audits and planning for listed company. Safe to say I almost died - too much admin work : we have alot of admin we need to do ourselves ( printing, beautifying fs, posting etc ) , the higher you go, the more admin you have . Not that there is no typist department , it is just understaffed so you end up doing a lot of admin work yourself
