Pros

Wood Mackenzie is one of the most positive and socially connected places I’ve worked. The people genuinely care — about each other, about the work, and about doing the right thing — and that creates a community feel that goes well beyond the usual “corporate culture” claims. The work itself is genuinely interesting and intellectually stretching, especially given the complexity of the markets WoodMac operates in. There’s also an almost overwhelming amount of learning opportunity on the job, online courses and in-person sessions. If you’re curious and motivated, you’ll never be short of ways to grow. What really stands out is the ambition. This is a business that’s serious about competing and winning in a challenging market, and that sense of purpose is energising.

Cons

The downside: senior leadership doesn’t always listen closely enough to the teams on the ground, particularly when those teams are sharing inconvenient truths. While new leaders bring optimism and fresh energy, without sharper focus, humility, and a truly authentic growth mindset, there’s a risk that valuable insights from tenured colleagues — and opportunities — could be missed.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and generous review! We’re so pleased to hear how strongly you’ve experienced the sense of community at Wood Mackenzie. The care our people show for one another, the intellectual challenge of the work, and the breadth of learning opportunities available are all things we work hard to foster — and it’s encouraging to know they resonate so clearly. Your comments on ambition and purpose reflect exactly the kind of environment we aspire to create. We also genuinely appreciate you highlighting where we need to be better. Listening closely — especially when the feedback is uncomfortable — is essential if we’re to make good decisions and grow as we want to, The experience and insight of our tenured colleagues are invaluable, and we recognise that humility and openness from leadership are critical to making the most of that collective wisdom. Your feedback is heard and taken seriously. Strengthening how we listen, how we engage, and how insights from across the organisation shape our direction remains a priority for us. As mentioned in previous responses we synthesise responses monthly and ensure leaders see this overview each month. Thank you again for your honesty, your contribution, and for being part of the Wood Mackenzie community!

Thank you for taking the time to share you experience. First, it's really great to hear that you value flexible working approach and our annual leave policy support you and other colleagues well. It really is important for us that WoodMackers have the space they need to balance work and life. Feedback like this suggests that it is largely working but we need to keep improving and not rest on our laurels. Turning to your concern: You raise an important concern about layoffs and turnover. We know this has been difficult for WoodMackers. We have made some tough organisational decisions to align our structure with our long‑term strategy and how we as a company can create value. These decisions were not taken lightly, and we absolutely understand the impact they have on our colleagues and on overall morale. Our focus is on ensuring stability. Investing in key parts of the business (which you hopefully have seen) and strengthening career development so people can see a clear future here and have the ability to move around the business too. Retention, trust and culture really are priorities for us. We're committed to making steady, tangible process. Thank you again for your honest and for all you do for WoodMac.

Pros

Best in class analysis - delivered via research and consulting businesses - and clients need quality and *connected* analysis even more than ever before. (It feels a little trite to quote The Book, but its true and I'm glad we have finally taken this perspective to market) Thoughtful, caring colleagues. I've been through too many natural disasters during my time in Houston, and there are always Woodmackers who rally around to support. Lastly, there are few other companies where the Analyst is truly celebrated. In industry, an analyst is just the low rung on the totem pole until you get to be a negotiator or into business development. Here, we have a Chairman and Chief Analyst -- we celebrate our analysis!!

Cons

Sometimes it feels like there are a lot of people that are removed from our core purpose in life: delivering thoughtful data and analysis to our customers. There were always people who made the business run, but now it seems like some of these support functions have a lot of management layers.
