JOB SUMMARY:
The Controls Engineer position is responsible for the development and delivery, in coordination with manufacturing engineers, of the required manufacturing equipment and systems for manual to highly automated assembly and test equipment. The predominant product lines that the Engineer will be responsible for are Control Devices (actuators/connectors/sensors/switches) and/or Electronics (Clusters/Control Modules). Actuator product line requires the Controls Engineer to work heavily with with PCBA (Melexis hall, allegro, etc.) calibration & programming. They will also be working with different versions of Automotive embedded system communication (CAN/LIN/Etc.)
This engineer will interact with M&E vendors to define electrical and controls requirements, Traceability requirements, and Testing sequences and requirements for new manufacturing equipment and systems. They will also interact with the receiving manufacturing plant during installation and project start-up. The engineer should be able to work both independently as well as in a team based environment.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Understand Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA and Control Plan and necessary controls for all new products

Including traceability and permission requirements
-
Understand regional electrical safety requirements and integration into equipment
-
Develops M&E specifications to include electrical/programming/hardware requirements
-
Coordinate with manufacturing engineer the vendor machine qualification, transfer to plant, and installation at plant
-
Complete delivery of all required electrical system and documentation
-
Programming software/test equipment algorithms
-
Electrical safe work practice documents (Lockout, Laser safety requirements)
-
Verification of all controls requirements at vendor and on manufacturing plant

Test programs
-
Master/reject test programs
-
Define and Integrate traceability and permissions requirements and verify at plant prior to PPAP

Support Pilot Run Events (or equivalent) for customers at plant.

Support development of product test equipment for proto-type builds of new product.

Cell readiness M&E hand off to process engineering when performance has reached agreed levels.

Support new program pursuits with timely quote responses, cost effective capacity solutions, maintain capacity utilizations for SCD and SRE products.

Implement lessons learned process to feedback quality/OE/scrap/technology lessons learned/improvements back into fundamental PFD/PFMEA of BOP to ensure best launches moving forward.

Travel Requirments:

Up to 25-75% of overall work schedule can require travel to support launch programs – vendor visits, plant visits, technical reviews.

Normal work schedule requires travel about 25-33% of the time

Time period during machine qualification, installation, and start up may require travel 50-75% of the time

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical field, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering is preferred or other equivalent field of Engineering in experience.
EXPERIENCE:
3-5 years of experience
KNOWLEDGE:

Demonstrated understanding of mechanical/electrical concepts

Experience in qualification / validation of lean assembly cells, machinery and equipment, gages and error proofing using Cpk studies, DOEs and MSA studies as R&R, Linearity and Bias studies to validate new variable gages, go- no-go gages and error proofing devices
