It’s hard to believe it was a little over a year ago—November of 2022—when ChatGPT took the internet (and workplace) by storm. At the time, a Glassdoor poll indicated that usage was strong among early adopters, with 27% of professionals saying they’d used ChatGPT, or other AI tools, at work. A few months later, in January of 2023, usage among professionals jumped to 43%.
In honor of the one year anniversary of ChatGPT, back in November, Glassdoor ran another poll to see if usage continued to grow. More than 5,000 professionals weighed in, and 62% of them—more than double the number from the year prior—are using ChatGPT, or similar tools, at work.
Marketing has the highest adoption of ChatGPT, with 77% of professionals in the industry saying they’ve used it at work. Consulting and Advertising follow closely behind with 71% and 67% adoption, respectively. Usage is lowest in insurance (33%), law (38%), and healthcare (40%).
While the majority of male (66%) and female professionals (57%) are using ChatGPT at work, adoption is slightly higher among men. From an age standpoint, 66% of Gen Z, 63% of Millennial, and 57% of Gen X professionals are using ChatGPT at work.
Methodology: This poll ran from November 13, 2023 through November 17, 2023 and was answered by 5,017 professionals. Respondents could answer with either “Yes” or “No” to the question, “Have you used ChatGPT, or other AI Tools, to help you with tasks at work?”
