A recent Glassdoor survey by The Harris Poll* revealed that the upcoming election season has some LGBTQ+ employees on edge. This anxiety stems from uncertainty about potentially harmful legislation that could follow the result.
What we learned: More than a third (35%) of LGBTQ+ employees worry the outcome of the 2024 presidential election will negatively impact their safety and protections (i.e., employment discrimination, harassment from coworkers) at work. In addition, 40% of LGBTQ+ employees expect their company to recognize and support their LGBTQ+ employees and candidates publicly.
Going deeper: A rise in anti-LGBTQ+ laws could negatively impact the workforce in the long term. Research shows that nearly four out of five (79%) employees say anti-LGBTQ laws would affect whether they would relocate for a new job in a particular state. Job seekers in states where these laws are becoming more prevalent may overlook employers with unclear stances on their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
What you can do: LGBTQ+ workers can use Glassdoor to find inclusive workplaces where they can be their authentic selves and connect in communities for support and insights. In addition, companies can share their commitment to inclusivity through the DEI and Why Work With Us sections.
