Every year, companies around the globe strive to be named one of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work. And, past research shows companies named to Glassdoor’s “Best Places to Work” list broadly outperformed the S&P 500.
But you won’t become a Best Place to Work (or even get in the running) unless you engage your employees. Since this is a completely data-driven list, it requires your employees to submit reviews and ratings about your company, management and what it’s like to work there, all year long.

The nitty gritty: methodology time
Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list is based entirely on employee feedback. Employees complete anonymous company reviews on Glassdoor that capture their overall job and company satisfaction, as well as qualitative insights into the best reasons to work at their company, along with what needs improvement.
Based on feedback employees share during the year-long period of eligibility, Glassdoor then applies a proprietary algorithm to each award category. As part of the algorithm, Glassdoor considers the quality, quantity and consistency of reviews.

So, how do we qualify for the list?
In addition to simply collecting employee reviews on Glassdoor, companies must have enough reviews to qualify by the eligibility deadline, which typically falls in November. And, all employee reviews must meet Glassdoor’s community guidelines in order to count towards the minimum criteria number. Note: there is no submission form for Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list, it is solely based on employee feedback on Glassdoor.
The DNA of a Glassdoor Best Place to Work winner
While Glassdoor Best Places to Work lists are based on quantitative measures of employee ratings, it’s often the qualitative traits that influence employees to accept job offers and stay with a company. Factors like mission, culture, people and transparency motivate employees to show up to work every day—and the reviews on Glassdoor reflect that.
