Company culture and values are arguably one of the most important aspects of a job. In fact, previous Glassdoor research found that the culture and values of an organization are the most important drivers of employee satisfaction, and that has not been changed by the pandemic, despite the continued evolution of work.

A healthy culture and a strong set of values can have a positive impact on the employee experience, not to mention, can help with retention, productivity, reputation, and more.

Toxic Culture Is Still Prevalent

But unfortunately, not every company is succeeding in creating a culture that employees want to be a part of. We asked the Glassdoor community if they’ve ever worked at a company with a toxic culture, and a whopping 85% of professionals admitted they have.

While a significant portion of both male and female professionals acknowledge previous exposure to companies with toxic work cultures, more women (91%) say they've experienced a toxic work culture compared to men (79%).

But looking at age groups, it's curious that younger professionals were less likely to say they’ve worked at a company with a toxic culture, compared to older respondents. While this may be due to younger employees having fewer jobs, optimistically, this might also suggest that more companies are making changes to eliminate toxicity at work, or perhaps, another positive impact of remote work.

By industry, professionals in Marketing (97%) have experienced the most toxicity in the workplace, followed by Healthcare (95%) and Insurance (93%).

Is Tech The Best?

Tech is notorious for offering fancy perks, fun offices, and strong company culture. In fact, culture and values for the tech industry were rated a 3.70 out of 5 on average on Glassdoor compared to the national average of 3.58, or 3% higher, between January 1st, 2023 and August 30th, 2023.

So, for those employees and job seekers looking to make a move to tech, or just seeking out a company with a culture and values they feel aligned with, Glassdoor compiled a list of The 10 Highest-Rated Tech Companies for Culture and Values, according to employees.
