Looking to find great engineering hires? You’re not alone. Finding qualified engineers for your company can be one of the most time consuming and difficult recruiting challenges. The reason? This market makes up a very small sliver of the work force but is in high demand. They have very specialized skills that involve years of experience, technical skills, and the ability to create new products in a hurry. But finding one that fits your software engineer job description is only half the battle. You need to convince that engineer to want to join your company. So what convinces an engineer to accept a position at your company?
  • Opportunity to learn and grow
  • Chance to work on interesting projects
  • Other engineers enjoy working there
  • A caring company environment
Recruiting engineers is about crafting an environment that the engineers want to be a part of. VMware turned to Glassdoor to do just that. Based in Palo Alto, California, VMware leads the way in virtualization and cloud infrastructure that enable businesses to thrive in the Cloud Era. With over 14,000 employees in over 50 locations around the world, quality was a much bigger issue than quantity. They needed to increase quality traffic and fill key engineering positions. VMware came to Glassdoor with 3 goals in mind:
  • Fill key engineering positions in a competitive market
  • Reach candidates with a targeted approach
  • Increase brand awareness
After establishing its goals, VMware decided to get involved using Job Ads and an Enhanced Profile. Job Ads proved a worthy investment for the tech giant, as targeted job advertisements reached qualified engineers who may not have had VMware on their radar. This increased the quality of applicants and cut back on the time sifting through resumes. The targeted strategy made sure VMware’s available positions reached ideal candidates by job seeker location and title. It also promoted its employer brand through the Enhanced Profile. This allowed the employer to display open positions on competitors’ pages, driving increased job seeker traffic to its Enhanced profile. The employer utilized its insights reports and analytics to see the levels of candidate engagement and the demographics of job seekers. The Enhanced Profile allowed it to showcase its brand while also connecting its social media feed which is a large influencer of millennial candidates.
