I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon (Cupertino, CA) in Mar 2017
Interview
I had a tech screening/phone interview that lasted more than an hour, then a second phone interview that focused on culture and customer service. After those I was offered an opportunity to fly to California for an in-person interview.
The in-person interview was a day-long affair and I met with five different people (Though one was via video conference.) I was there from 10-3.
They arranged my air travel and hotel and gave me a per diem for food and transportation.
The interview questions focused around the Amazon Leadership Principles and many of the questions seemed to be re-worded versions of the same question to get at the principle assignment of that particular interviewer.
Everyone I met was very friendly and most seemed enthusiastic about working there. One was a bit more lackluster and admitted that the benefits weren't great and there was no provided lunch every day and no on-site gym. (Which I guess is more the norm in Silicon Valley, but not as much in the rest of the country. The job I was applying for was not in California so I didn't expect those perks.)
Overall it was intense to interview with five people over the course of 5 hours, but once I was doing it, it didn't seem as overwhelming.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Describe a situation where you had to go over a supervisor's head to accomplish something.
They ask a lot of technical trivia questions that have nothing to do with the job. They like hearing stories about how you raised the bar and/or made your prior job better. Be familiar with the STAR method.
Panel interview with 4 people. One hour with each interviewer who will ask 2 to 4 questions based on leadership principles related to the job role you are applying for.
first starts with a phone screening.
then if they pass you on you would meet with three individuals for about an hour each. Some of them might be in the area you are applying others might just be a manager from a different ORG.
