      Solution Architect Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon (New York, NY) in Oct 2020

      Interview

Applied online to three different SA positions. About one week later, I received an automated email asking me to take an online assessment that would take about 100 minutes. The assessment was mostly situational about responding to general business questions and situations. The very last section began by asking you to choose two of four sections of cloud technologies that interest you, and then you get tested on your understanding of those areas. About a week after the assessment, I received an email from a recruitment coordinator letting me know that I passed and would be skipping the initial interview and going right into the all-day gauntlet of interviews. While that sounded lovely, not having that interview meant I wasn't as aware of which specific SA role I was being interviewed for. (I had applied to 3.) This coordinator also let me know I would be hearing from two different coordinators in the next two business days to set up a prep call. That never happened. I emailed the coordinator back as a follow up. A week after my follow up, one of the two finally did reach out to set up a prep call for everyone who will be interviewing for the position. The use Amazon Chime for the meeting, which prompts everyone for their name upon joining. This meant I was able to see the names of everyone else interviewing for the position on the same day, as were they. That should not have happened. I absolutely did go to LinkedIn and look people up. On this prep call, I/we were told about the NDA and presentation outline we had received... which they hadn't sent out. Strike 3 (ish)... The prep call is really to go over the format for the day-of. We will have 5-6 meetings with individual or pairs of Amazonians who will interview us. Most of the interviewers are in positions related to the role, but one will be from a different part of the organization. There will also be a one hour presentation we are to give on a recent project we gave technical expertise to. I reached out to the coordinators directly for a little more guidance on the presentation, but got no response. Strike 4. The day of the interviews went smoothly. All interviewers begin with an intro of themselves, a rehash of the format, and then dive into questions. The reiterate that they want answers in the STAR format. The interviewers that were outside the scope of the role asked good questions, but gave an air of being bothered by having to go through with the process. At the final round, the interviewer let me know that they would get back in 2 business days. A week later, I'm emailing for a follow up as they had basically ghosted me. Strike 5. They finally did call to let me know they would not extend an offer. I would have declined one at this point anyway due to the lack of clear communication and follow up. Bonus, Strike 6, the same person who let me know there wouldn't be an offer called back four days later to tell me the same thing. She never updated her paperwork, and it still showed I needed follow up. Talk about dysfunctional.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

NDA signed, but nothing was asked that was out of the ordinary or particularly technical; nothing specific to the company or their products. A lot of "tell me about a time when..." style questions.

      Interview

Although I didn't pass the interview, I had a positive overall experience. The interview process was well organized, and the instructions were clear and informative. I appreciated the transparency throughout the process, which helped me prepare effectively for the interview.

      Question 1

      1. How do you engage customers and build customer relationships? 2. What do you think about AI? Do you use AI in your work? 3. Can you explain a case in which you declined a customer's request?

      Interview

You do 4 back to back interview in 1 day. It was exhausting. Besides that really appreciated the recruiter giving out interview prep before it takes place. The good thing is there is no coding round.
