I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2012
Interview
Phone screen was technical and involved writing code on a collaborative website.
Onsite interview was five 1 hour interviews plus a lunch.
The interviews were very technical and a lot of time was spent coding on a white board.
None of the interviewers talk to each other between the interviewers so some of the questions were similar.
Phone screen question was how to find the second largest sum of any two pairs in an array of numbers
Onsite questions focused on writing an optimized loop to iterate over data looking for some common characteristic. Or the data was iterating through links, and determining when all link paths had been exhausted.
Dress was casual for the interview

Question 1
Start with a web page for a movie. On it there are recommendations. write a loop that iterates through and exhausts all titles that can are linked given a starting title.
Applied the job through referral. Recruiter contacted me within a few days and scheduled phone screens very promptly. The first phone screen was with the hiring manager. He asked open ended technical questions for discussion and a coding question. Second phone screen was with a technical lead and the questions were more data structure oriented.
