I experienced discrimination at the highest level. Let me tell you about how I applied for over 40 roles at Chubb London and didn’t get called back for 1 interview. I have over 4 years experience of being an underwriter and over 10 years experience in the insurance industry. I’m a 31 year old female with a BAME background with all the relevant experience yet I wasn’t good enough for even one interview. It makes you question why. I personally know of 3 other people that applied for the same jobs as I did and not only did they get the interview, but they got the jobs too. After 3 times seeing this happen I tried to look at this scenario from a different angle and the things that these 3 people had in common were: they were all younger than me, less experienced than me, all male and most importantly, all British. Now maybe that’s just one helluva coincidence. So I decided to write to one of their HR Business Partners, I asked him why less experienced candidates were being afforded job opportunities and he couldn’t answer the question so he blocked me on LinkedIn. I will be answering pre-interview questions below since I’ve not made it through for even one interview
The interview process consisted of three rounds, including conversations with team members and leadership. Discussions focused on experience, technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and overall fit for the role and organization.

Describe a time you faced a challenge at work and how you handled it.
My interview with Chubb gave me a strong understanding of both the company’s culture and the expectations of the underwriting role.
We discussed how Chubb operates as a global leader in insurance, with a strong emphasis on risk assessment, client relationships, and long-term financial stability. The team highlighted that underwriting at Chubb is not just technical, but also relationship-driven. Success in the role requires analytical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to balance risk with business opportunity.
3 interviews in total - 1 screening and 2 in-person. Not very technical. Salary for a first-time position is great (associate role). 30-minute interview. 2-3 people will be attending the meeting alongside you.
