The interview process started with a screening call from the hiring manager.
This screening conversation went for over 30 minutes. It was a very good call - the outcome of the call was that I would be receiving an email noting availability for four interviews - with the: 1) hiring manager; 2) the hiring manager's boss; 3) the manager of a peer team; and 4) another manager of a peer team.
The above interviews went well; however, I was not selected for the final round of interviews.
Even though I was not selected, I was very pleased to receive direct feedback from the hiring manager indicating that the other top candidates had more background in the software area that the job was emphasizing.
