Kind regards, Katja - Recruitment Specialist at Coolblue
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Coolblue in Jun 2022
Interview
1. A short call with the recruiter
2. A call with the HR and an Engineering Manager about past experience with generic questions about what I was doing at my current company, feedback from the Manager, etc
After the 2nd meeting they sent a take-home assignment with a simple task. There was an email address where I could ask question related to the task: I asked a question but nobody replied.
3. An interview with 2 Android Developers mostly based on the assignment.
There were 2 developers asking questions and replying "Yes, OK" or "yes that makes sense" on all of my answers and didn't ask any follow-up questions and didn't ask me to explain my answers. I'm under the impression that the devs were either uninterested in the interview or didn't have a sufficient English vocabulary to ask something in-depth.
Afterwards I was contacted by the recruiter who told me that I'm not proficient enough in SOLID and Clean Architecture, so they won't make me an offer. I was a bit confused since I could explain all of my answers related to the topic and had an impression that the interviewers agreed to everything I was saying.
Another thing to note is that I was initially rejected after sending my resume since the recruiter though that I need a visa to work in the Netherlands. This was a red flag for me, but I decided to continue in order to gain some interview experience.
I recommend looking at the average salary for Senior Android Developer positions in Amsterdam/Netherlands before accepting the offer at Coolblue. The range they offered was for the position was 15-20% lower than the average in Amsterdam.
