I applied through college or university. I interviewed at DISH
Interview
I had several rounds, first was pre-qualifying tests and then a Skype interview with a recruiter. After that I was asked to submit a video cover letter answering three easy questions.
I had an initial phone screen with HR and it went terribly. The HR at DISH is very unprofessional and barely competent. I was only asked 2 questions, why dish, what do you know about dish. Not a single thing about my resume, experience, or qualifications. The guy talked for 30 minutes straight telling me about DISH, it was like I was talking to a sales rep. I asked him questions about the position and he had no answers at all. Very disappointing and it was silly for the call to go 30 minutes. He told me they would let me know at the end of the week, I followed up with him and they said DISH was looking at other candidates. Weirdest phone interview I've ever had. He just wanted to talk about DISH the whole time, honestly he probably didn't even have my resume.
I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at DISH (Denver, CO) in Aug 2011
Interview
Dish is proud that they test all applicants in skills and personality. Before figuring out where they would fit it if at all. The test is similar to an SAT test which maybe fine if you just graduated school but when you are decades from graduation I recommend finding some example tests online.

Question 1
Do you mind taking a skills test?....Before I can have you talk to anyone you must first take our skills test. It is not bad, just like an SAT test. Just make sure you are not tired when you take it.
