Overall, I was disappointed in the lack of transparency through the interview process. After four interviews, two technical challenges, and a culture fit assessment I was told by HR to expect an offer within a few days.
I got a call after three days and was told that they were ready to make an offer, but they asked if I could do one more interview because there was another team that I may be a great fit for. I did the additional interview and was then asked if I could do another interview with their team lead. I did that interview as well.
Finally, after this nearly three month process, the offer I was given was $20k less than the amount I asked for at the beginning of the interview process. The amount I originally asked for I was told was, “well within my reach given my skill and the role."
When I asked the HR rep how this happened, he said that during the three months I had been interviewing they hired someone for my original role and they can only offer me this alternative role. He basically said they like to “cast a wide net” when interviewing because the process takes so long and they can’t guarantee there’s a position available when you get to the end of it.
I wish this was communicated to me at the beginning because I turned down another job offer thinking I was going to work for Dish.
