I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at FedEx (Saint Louis, MO) in Jan 2010
Interview
Not really too difficult. Can you lift over 50lbs? Can you stand on your feet? How are you in a fast paced environment? etc. Since this is the lowest level job, the interview is the easiest of the process.
I applied online. I interviewed at FedEx (Los Angeles, CA) in Jan 2011
Interview
They gave me a call shortly after i had applied and asked me some brief questions and that was basically the interview. I showed up the next day in suit and tie thinking i was getting ready for the real interview when i was informed that i already had it.

You start by registering for a short tour of the facility called a sort observation. Then you apply, within a day or two, you'll be called for an "interview". I put that in quotation marks because it's a joke and it's pointless. The only thing they do is tell you the pay and the physical demands of the job and ask if you're still interested. Mine lasted about three minutes. After that, they do your background check which should take no more than two days then you start. It is the quickest and easiest hiring process I have ever seen but they're not going to be very selective. They just need bodies. If you can walk and chew gum at the same time, the job is yours.
