I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Glassdoor (Mill Valley, CA) in Nov 2018
Interview
To put it short, Glassdoor really walks their talk.
1. Initial phone screen with recruiter
2. Technical interview with Sr. Manager over video
3. Technical interviews with two Sr. Engineers over video
4. Three on-site interviews - two Seniors / Leads and the CIO
5. Interview with Security Director over video
I can see where it would frustrate people looking for quick placement, but I honestly really respect Glassdoor for being so thorough in their recruiting process. The company says they prioritize certain values and it definitely shows.
From start to finish, the recruiter was very open and transparent. At every stage of the interview process I was informed what the next steps would be, was given an estimate of the timeline, and was kept in the loop if there were delays.
Most of the interviews, even the technical ones, felt more like conversations with an old friend. The questions weren't easy, but you could tell they were definitely more about helping you succeed than trying to stump you. It's kind of silly that I have to even say that, but this is where Glassdoor has really stood out relative to other interviews I've had over the years - even ones I received offers for.
I remember being really caught off guard by my conversations with the Sr. Manager especially because he actually asked for more details about my extra curricular activity. I always assume that people ask only out of courtesy, but even as I mentioned certain points nonchalantly, the experience was echoed back to me with the same perspective and gravity that I actually held internally. It showed he really listened and actually cared about the candidate as a whole. I would say the same for the Sr. Engineers/Admins that report to this Sr. Manager as well.
All in all, this has been the best interview experience I've ever had. The outcome is obviously disappointing as it felt like the perfect cultural fit, but I enjoyed the talks with the team so much I can't even be upset. I knew exactly what the team was looking for and where I ultimately fell short.
Thank you so much for first taking your time and energy to participate in the interview process with us, and then for writing such a comprehensive review of the process. Our Information Technology group is very thoughtful in their recruiting process, and I'm so glad you had a great experience. Our teams continue to grow, and I hope you'll keep your eye on our openings for a future spot on the team. - Julie Coucoules, Director, Talent Acquisition
