Interview
I found out about the job through my university's career center. I applied on HSBC's website and received a reply just a few days inviting me to do the online tests. The first test was a numerical one, and if you pass that one you are automatically invited to take the verbal test. After those online test results, I received another e-mail just a few hours later asking me to schedule a phone interview. My phone interview questions were:
1.) Describe your understanding of the HSBC International Management Program. Why HSBC?
2.) Describe a time when you had to meet a deadline.
3.) Tell me about a time when you demonstrated leadership skills.
4.) Describe a time when you carried out good customer service.
5.) Tell me about a personal setback.
The interviewer was very friendly. However, he had a strong British accent, which made the communication slightly difficult to understand. It was suppose to be only 45 minutes but lasted 50 minutes.
I waited 1 or 2 weeks and received a rejection e-mail. Apparently, they collectively review everything up to the phone interview (your application, online test results, phone interview) to decide whether to send you to the selection center.

Interview
I applied for the International Manager position. The first round was on online assessment with English and math (evaluating revenue, stock prices etc) questions. Scheduled an phone interview, which consisted of staged questions basically to the tune of “Have you had to terminate anyone” followed by “How did you explain this decision to the rest of the team” and “How do you present stretch goals to a team and how do you ensure they are met”. You could also ask them questions about the position at the end of the interview. I was explained that they look for a particular type of person and want to ensure that you will not quit 2 years into the program. Primarily looking for someone in their mid or lower 20’s.
