I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Morgan Stanley
Interview
After online application, they responded within 2 weeks. A technical phone interview was scheduled where they mainly discuss things related to your CV and from there it escalates quickly.
Its usually a 30-40 minutes interview.
They start with asking about the programming language you are comfortable with and then the questions are based on that and depending on how you answer the difficulty level increases.
In the end you are given few minutes to ask any questions about the company, role, etc.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Morgan Stanley in Jun 2012
Interview
Around 5 interviews in total . 2 HR 2 technical 1 manager. All standard programming/database/operating systems questions. Nothing quite unexpected, but I was prepared to for worse. They where very nice although it did not seem too clear what would I be working on until the last interview.

Interview
Met a recruiter at a conference with regards to the technology analyst position. I was told that I was applying for a developer position. Landed a 'technical interview'. To me, this means data structures and algorithms. The interviewer called 45 minutes late and the interview was completely scenario based. The questions also did not seem development based (I later found out that I was being interviewed for a tester position to which I had no knowledge I had applied for or was being interviewed for). No communication was given on that front.
