I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at OYO (Manchester, Inglaterra) in Mar 2019
Interview
A recruiter reached out to me a few times on Linkedin and at the end I gave in and decided to have a chat with her. She was LOVELY! She managed to whole process really well.
We first had a quick call, the a facetime video call. She loved my experience and tbh Oyo did sound brilliant on ‘paper’. Super interesting product in a market dying to get ‘all-in’.
Then I had a call with one of the UK directors who was also super friendly and asked me a good challenging questions on how I understand their product, company vision, commission model etc. Luckily the recruiter had sent to me quite a lot of information so I was prepared. It made me a really good impression that the UK Director was prepared to have a call withe at 6pm as obviously I’m working during the day. On the other hand I started thinking ‘what about work life balance’.
Eventually I had a face to face with a Sales Manager in Manchester who’s just moved to Britain from India. Again really friendly and interesting interview. BUT a couple of things got me thinking if there really is a match:
- the interviewer asked me how flexible I was regarding relocating to Liverpool/ Leeds etc. And that the company may require it. I had recently bought a flat in Manchester so that wasn’t an option for me.
- he also asked if I was married or had a girlfriend, assuming I’m straight. How would I be perceived someone who’s not straight...
- he also warned me that occasionally it may happen I’ll need to work late or in the weekends because of the mission etc. Work-life balance??
At the end I got an offer from the recruiter, which I negotiated a bit on the basic salary. As other people said, the basic is great!! But because of the points I decided to reject the offer.
Based on what I read in the comments on Glassdoor, I’m confident I took the right decision
I applied in-person. I interviewed at OYO (Pune) in Feb 2025

HR based in India, very messy process. Put me off working for the company, if even the initial stages feels like an after thought, then it's a clear sign of what is to follow.
