Interview process took months. Had 2 rounds of interviews each at least 2-3 weeks apart. Finally got an offer. Wanted to negotiate offer which took another 3 weeks to try and speak with hiring manager. Finally, gave up and accepted offer as is because wanted to get cracking soon. Received welcome email from HR and from hiring manager. Took another 2 weeks to settle on a starting date. Finally starting date was agreed upon. Paper work was submitted to HR.A week and a half before starting date, got a call from hiring manager saying that the offer was being rescinded due to recent sizable layoffs announcement from the company. No additional explanation was provided and neither was I offered any compensation for missing out on the 2-3 opportunities I gave up b/c of this one plus the frustration of dragging out the interview process and the continued delays despite offer acceptance and the presence of signed documentation. I realise that no company has to offer any kind of comp. in such a situation but a big, global company like Scotia should really have the decency to treat people with respect and preserve whatever reputation it has.
This to me was a clear example of how it (mis)treats its customers and employees and why it has a small market share in Canada. Needless to say, I will never bank with them or work for them.
