      Financial Advisor Trainee Interview

      Nov 10, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Mississauga, ON
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Scotiabank (Mississauga, ON) in Nov 2015

      Interview

Three step interview process. First phone conversation lasted about 15-20, and we went through my resume and work experience. Highlight your experience in a customer service role and with sales targets as best you can. Within same phone call was scheduled to do another phone interview with a focus on behavioral type questions. This phone call last close to an hour and was in-depth but nothing out of the ordinary. Some questions included 1) explain a type when you had to explain a complex problem to a client, what was the outcome 2) Explain a time when you went above and beyond for a customer 3) Describe a time when you disagreed with management and how'd you deal with/resolve the situation. Within same phone call was told I would progress to the in person panel interview but that she would get back to me with a date. Received the phone call a few days later to confirm date and time. Group interview with 3 others candidates and a panel of 3 branch managers and 1 training manager. Was told that candidates are not competing for the same position as there are multiple openings in the region. In person interview lasted almost 2 hours, 1 hour in a group setting and the other as a individual interview. Really let your personality show through the entire process. Greet everyone pleasantly and focus on communication with other candidates and team work. One activity was to get to know another candidate and then make a presentation on why you think he is a great candidate. Really listen and probe the other candidate to help build your presentation. Second activity was two present a topic with all the other candidates. Very ambiguous activity but once again highlight your listening and questioning skills, offer input and your thoughts, and build presentation as a team (topic does not matter in the least bit). Individual portion of panel interview is pretty straight forward and basic. you get roughly 30 minutes with 2/4 panel members while the other two are interviewing other candidate, and then you switch. (Two other candidates came in early and did individual portion before group one). Behavioral/situation questions. Examples would be 1) name a time when a customer made a complaint or was unhappy with your service and what was the outcome. 2) Explain a difficult time in your life and how you grew from it. 3) How do you set and reach short term and long term goals 4) How would you develop strong business relationships 5) How would you hold your self accountable.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Scotiabank (London, ON) in May 2022

      Interview

It has taken longer than expected. About a month to complete the interviews and the whole process. It took about 1 week after applying to be contacted for first interview and then another 15 days for second interview. The interviewer was to the point and not very friendly, but very honest and clear about pay and what I will need to do once I start.
