Interview
Applied for Role A and had a phone interview with the HR for 2 hours. Subsequently, the HR proposed that I apply for Role B instead since my resume is more suited for Role B. I accepted the change and went on another 3 rounds of interview for Role B (Interview with department people, leader, and then the founder). Afterwards, the HR asked if I was interested in Role C instead and I accepted. Another HR staff was assigned to me who then requested for all my documents again which I had previously sent to the HR that oversaw my application for Role A. Technical expertise was required in all the 3 roles that I applied for.
Finally, I rejected the subsequent interview as I had accepted another company’s offer.
Overall, I feel that the entire interview process could have been more streamlined. About 6 rounds of interviews over a span of 1 month+ can be very inefficient. Rotating the applicants to multiple roles can be frustrating for the applicant and demotivates the individual from carrying on with the process as more time had to be invested to prepare for another role’s interview. It would have been acceptable should the extra interviews and rounds provide Shopee with a better gauge of my fit for the role. However, the same information was requested from me by different interviewers across the multiple roles. Coordination between HR staff was minimal.
Feedback to the organization:
- Invest in a unified HR portal
- Review the entire recruiting process and streamline it
- Have at most 1-3 rounds of interviews consisting of technical interview, panel interview (Try to assign an interview slot with as many of the panelist as possible instead of having the applicants go through so many interviews with individual Shopee staffs)
