Question 1
Interview round 2: Tell me a time that you learned new things?
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Shopee (Bangkok) in Jul 2019
Interview
In short: Messy, unprofessional HR and skeptical interview processes with different judgement standards from each HR.
Details: Getting to the interview is already a long process, they announced like 3-4 months earlier so getting to the first round is already super long process.
1st Round: Basically GMAT without verbal reasoning section so just numerical reasoning part and the picture logic test
2nd Round: Leaderless group discussion and HR interview
Around 150+ people were called on the day and were separated into three batches. Each batch consists of roughly 50+ people would be separated again to 9 groups. Business case study was distributed and each group was given 5 min reading the case, 20 min discussion and 5 min presentation. Each group has invigilator which is actually an HR staff. Roughly the procedures were conducted in clumsy and unprofessional way that each candidate could not demonstrate their potential fully with this setup and atmosphere.
Then each candidate was then interviewed 1-1 with the HR staff. There were around 12+ tables consisting of one HR staff at each table which made me questioning about the judgement standard of each person as it is obviously subjective to the interviewer and there are around 12+ interviewers each interviewing around 3-5 people. The judgement by the interviewer seemed skeptical and not in a standard way by each interviewer. My HR interviewer just walked through the CV and as I currently work abroad, it is likely that he is unconvinced of me going back to Thailand to work. The result was negative for me.
Overall, HR interview is absolutely a joke. You don't know which HR you are going to interview with. They all have different mindsets and ways of judging people. Interview is always subjective to the HR and there are 12+ people to interview the candidates. If the interviews do not come from only one person or one group of HRs interviewing the person together, I do not think this interview is fair for every candidate. Probably the head office in Singapore might not know about the situation for HR department in Thailand. But I hope they see this and respond accordingly.
