Applied online through a job board and had a phone interview invite. Interviewer delayed by 15 min, fine.
At first the interview went ok. Later on I realized the interviewer changed in attitude and was not respectful, nor listening. Or perhaps her English was not good enough. For example, I listed the shopping apps I used in Taiwan and added, "but when I was in the States, I used Amazon." And then right after I finished that sentence, the interviewer asked "What online shopping app did you use in America?" WTF?
It was supposed to be a 30 min phone screen, or so I thought, but since the interviewer decided that I was not very qualified for the role (which did not specify that they were looking for a senior position), and she extended the interview by 30 min+ with Case Questions. When I probed for more information and clarification to better form a solution, the interviewer was very reluctant to reveal more, as though it was wrong for me to ask questions.
At this point I realized the interviewer was probably reading off a list of questions and expecting an exact same answer, not respecting my thought or logical process at all. Kept telling me my approach was what the marketing department is responsible for. Interviewer never told me what, then, was actual job responsibilities aside from it being a technical role,. Explained what a "product marketing manager" is as though I knew nothing. Alright, just because my understanding of what a product marketing manager is responsible of differs from what the company defines the role, does not mean that I am inherently wrong. It's not as though this “product marketing manager" has an industry standard in definitions and responsibilities. No need to be so condescending.
Finally, at the end I told the interviewer I was more interested in working in the Singapore office because I preferred working in a primarily English environment. The interviewer asked me, in a super disdainful tone, if I could read or write Chinese, when I already told her before that I studied in a Chinese speaking High School taken College Entrance Exams to enroll in a University. Now this is just frankly offensive. Overall this was not a good interview experience.
