I applied in-person. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Slack
Interview
This was a phone screen with a recruiter.
Evidently the recruiter was under the impression, before the interview even started, that I was highly under qualified for the role. The interview/screen was underwhelming on my part, given that the recruiter talked to me as though I had no idea what the job was about. Although my experience is twice a much as what the job required, the recruiter talked to me as though I was a Jr Designer.
I believe this is because the recruiter fundamentally misunderstood what the job was about and assumed that slightly different job titles (i.e., UX Designer, Information Architect, etc) were vastly different from the job responsibilities they were hiring for.
How bad was it? We didn't discuss the details of the job. We didn't even discuss my work history, skills, or how I might be qualified for the job. Afterwards, the recruiter even sent a job description for a completely different company!
This company gets a lot of phrase, but this was awful.

Question 1
I wasn't asked any questions about myself or my past experience.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
Thorough, thoughtful, they emphasize their culture in each step. All interviews are done with people managers. Had a casual coffee with an IC to learn more about the team.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (Toronto, ON) in Mar 2019
Interview
The whole recruitment process at Slack was wonderful. The recruiter I worked with was communicative and always kept me in the loop of next steps, even if there were delays due to people being away, etc. I first had an initial screening call with the recruiter, which was quickly followed by a 1:1 phone interview with the hiring manager. There was a bit of a wait until I heard I was moving forward to the next and final round, which was the presentation to the panel and 4x 1:1 interviews in succession. The presentation was honestly a lot of work to get it ready and you really had to know what you were presenting inside and out, but definitely see the value in having candidates go through it. Everyone I spoke to during the interview process was very friendly and it's clear that Slack values the corporate culture and its employees a lot. Overall, I'd say it was an intense interview process but everyone was so nice and passionate about the company that it made it enjoyable.
