You come into Target and enter employee area. You must wear the mandatory red shirt and khaki pants on interview day. An assistant at the secretary desk will ask you to fill out a couple of forms. I remember I had 2 interviews. The first interview was really basic stuff like what kind of position I would like to do, what days I am available during the summer and what days I am available during classes. The second interview was more behavioral: Describe a time you worked in a team. What problems came about? How did you get them resolved. Why do you want to work at Target? Why do you want to work as a cashier (or whatever position you picked)? No technical questions or IQ tests here.
I was pretty much offered the position the same day. I'm guessing that's typical but I didn't really ask around.
What really impressed them was my research on Target and how I was able to talk about the different community services that Target is involved in. Read that up on Target's website and talk about you appreciate the many things Target is involved in outside of being just a big chain of retail stores.
