Question 1
Tell me about a time you’ve gone above and beyond in your role
I applied online. I interviewed at Tesco (Londres, Inglaterra) in Jun 2025
Interview
An unfortunate negative experience interviewing at Tesco:
- 30 minute screening interview with hiring manager who was incredibly agressive
- positioned my questions back to me in a way that implied I didn’t know how to do my job. For example, “what are the priorities for the roadmap for the next several months”. An agressive response that mentioned a roadmap needed to be created and implied my question was a reflection of me not understanding this.
- I was told in the interview as I do not have a computer science background “the team wouldn’t want to work with you” “we have prickly people here and they won’t be receptive to you”. All the while having my CV Infront of him and could see I have several degrees, have been in product for nearly 5 years and despite the lack of a computer science degree I am capable at my job.
- Created an unwelcome and hostile environment in the interview
- Told me they were looking for a “unicorn” product owner (again reminding me I am not an ex developer or architect, and that I’m not technical enough. So, why interview me?)
- HR never got back to me. They called me one, and I returned their call twice to not have my call picked up or an email sent. Really poor behaviour for such a large company.
I felt Tesco was not welcoming to women in tech, and has an incriedble hostile tech environment. The interviewee was agressive, hostile and rude. The role is still being advertised and this doesn’t surprise me.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tesco (Crewe, England) in Jun 2024
Interview
The initial application process was straightforward. I submitted my resume through the company’s website, and I received an acknowledgment email within a few hours. A few days later, I was contacted via email to schedule an interview, which was quick and efficient. Overall, I felt that the application process was smooth and transparent.
