I applied in-person. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at US Army (Nampa, ID) in Mar 2014
Interview
They made sure my GT score and ASVAB Score was high enough and made sure I wasn't a convicted felon. I passed all categories, enlisted, went to Basic Training and AIT, and served 4 years.
There was none, besides the rigmarole of eligibility to serve. There wasn't any person to person contact to get "hired" for the MOS (job title) however, more of a skills conversation with recruiters to see what one may like to do in the military-then based of of that choice an ASVAB was initiated (Placement test) and then if all goes well, you ship off to BASIC and bada bang bada boom. your in. (if you can make it)

Interview
New hires conduct an interview over the phone if you are not local. The interview is pretty basic and you are asked a series of law enforcement questions. Then they told me how boring the job was and that I could not expect have a lot of law enforcement contact in this job. However it is not unheard of it is rare. They asked how I felt about that.
