Based on college GPA, extra curricular activities and advanced camp results which determine if you receive your branch of choice. Each year, the cohort is ranked on an order of merit list and that will determine what branch you receive.

It was very easy, the recruiters do all the work. I merely showed up one early morning at MEPS and took a bunch of tests. At the end of the day, I knew my job and when I was going to get shipped out.

ASVAB, Medical Screenings, Physical Fitness Test (APFT), . . .
After entry, must pass Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training for your Military Occupational Specialty.
Lots of face time with Recruiter. Possible map training for entry at increased rank. Culminates in swearing in ceremony.
Don't sign anything until you have someone that was in who cares about you look at the contract.
