Not applicable, because its the Army. There are no interviews. I was promoted and selected for this position by my organizational leadership, almost an automatic selection, although some officers are just not great and never make it to XO.
I applied in-person. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at US Army (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2020
Interview
There is an audition. Look at the AMPA scoring policies for your instrument and follow them exactly. It's not that bad and it's a sweet gig. You also have to go to basic training and the Army School of Music. They were very formative experiences to undergo and you learn a lot. I would recommend it!
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at US Army (Daegu) in Mar 2022
Interview
Applied through USAJOBS and a couple month later, got a Zoom interview notified by email, it was short notice. Zoom interview was efficient when it is one on one, but they have 5-6 people in one video. It was hard to focus that seeing lots of people in one. Especially with short notice, detail questions were asked about doing the job, and how would you do questions.
