I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Uber (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
Person who reached out to me, and asked me to interview initially, was super easy to talk to and engaging. She was really excited to get me in touch with hiring manager and emphasized the importance of transparenency on my end since I already had other offers on the table. She even made a point of saying that they prided themselves on quick and effective follow up and communication regarding next steps, and needed me to do the same on my end.
From there, during my actual phone interview, the person I spoke with was very very unwelcoming and distracted during our actual interview. At one point she was answering someone's question in the office and kept having me repeat myself. Was a little awkward because she didn't seem to know much about CS in general, so I think she was embarrassed by not being able to answer some basic adoption and usage questions I had. Right at 30 minutes time, she even cut me off mid sentence to let me know "time was up". Was super awkward bc I think she was trying to get on with an internal situation, but she really could've rescheduled or been more professional in general. I think it was just basic lack of social queues. I'd expect someone leading the hiring process to be a little more polished though, and not such a rookie.
Of course, after the whole "communication" and "transparency" lecture from my initial point of contact, the team took over a week to follow up with me...by that time I'd already moved on with another company. It wasn't a huge deal, I just thought it kind of funny that they made such a huge deal abt me following up and being transparent with them in a timely manner, and they couldn't extend the same courtesy to me.
