Interview
phone interview, data challenges, onsite.
Overall positive experience for all the technical rounds. Most interviewers are trying to understand what you know and how much you know rather than asking you something you are not familiar with. For example, I was asked an NLP question in one round of interview. I mentioned that I not very familiar with NLP but I will try to answer based on my general knowledge in NLP. The interviewer immediately decided to switch to questions in other fields "Let's talk about something you know". And then we had a great conversation about several algorithms/techniques/design.
I applied online. I interviewed at Uber in Jun 2019
Interview
Applied online. A recruiter reached out to me with a list of screening questions. In the next step, she sent a take-home case to finish in 7 days. I work in the field of data science for 10 years and I spent around 15 hours and analyzed the data with multiple tools and provided recommendations. Then after a few days, I received an auto-rejection note. I asked for feedback and they gave none.
Such a waste of time and effort.

Interview
Two weeks after submitting my resume online, I was contacted by an HR generalist. She sent me a short questionnaire with questions like why are you interested in Uber? the immigration status, etc. The HR lady then set up an exploratory chat with a hiring manager and during the chat, we talked about my overall background and experience and why I was interested in Uber. A day after the first chat, the HR team sent me a questionnaire to fill out asking about my visa status.
After finishing up the immigration questionnaire, another hiring manager wanted to set up a technical phone screen with me. During the 45-minute phone screen, in the beginning (about 10 minutes or so), some basic questions like difference between for loop and while loop, meaning of inner join are asked. And later I was asked about a case where I went through the steps of a data science project with the HM. My background is in transportation engineering and did not have much knowledge about data science when I had the interview. But the HM was really friendly and helpful, she listened really carefully to my answers and guided me through the case. I got rejected after the technical phone screen but still a really positive experience :)
