Question 1
What is your favorite software project you've worked on?
I applied online. I interviewed at Uline (Pleasant Prairie, WI) in Nov 2020
Interview
I was fooled into applying for an IT job for the 2nd time in 10 years. Uline puts applicants through 2+ hours of writing and behavioral tests, usually at their HR office, followed by 1 or 2 HR interviews. The first time, I took the long drive in a suit in July to their IL-Wisconsin border location and spent a lot of time waiting in cubicles. Recently, I applied again - this time, everything was online due to Covid. They gave all the same tests and HR interviews again, nothing had changed in 10 years. This is a family-owned business, so evidently they don't like change. I now have 15 years of experience, including as a travelling consultant. I thought I'd like to try again since Uline seems to be a fascinating online retail company. After 10 days I got another rejection email. What bothers me most is that I have more even more skills than the job posting called for. I don't think the behavioral tests would have made me out to be a thief or psychopath(?!). HR did mention they tend to hire their own inside interns, so maybe it's that they don't like to pay much. In any case, I hate having my time wasted. They're the worst example of this. No more applications to this company!
