I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Wegmans Food Markets (Hunt Valley, MD) in Jul 2015
Interview
I applied online then I was surprised to get a call just an hour later to schedule a phone interview. I did the phone interview the next day. I was asked to go through each previous job and say when I worked there, what I liked most about it, what was the most challenging thing about it, and why I left the job. I was asked what it means to be a team player, why I applied to Wegmans, what food safety means, when was a time I have demonstrated high standards, what pay I was expecting, what company besides Wegmans had great customer service and why. It took 30 minutes, but it didn't feel that long.
At the end of the phone interview she set up an in-person interview for the next day. It was with an "employee representative" and a front end manager. At this interview they asked me what job duties did I expect the cashier position to have, which of my past jobs was the least rewarding, what is your ideal work environment, how would I handle an upset customer, what I would do if the customer asked me something I didn't know the answer to, when is a situation where I had to work with a team to achieve something and how did you guys achieve it, when is a time I failed to communicate effectively, when is a time you had to teach someone a difficult skill, how would you deal with working with people from different backgrounds and perspectives (or when was a time that you had to??) .Some of these questions I listed are not the exact wording. I couldn't completely remember them but I wrote the general gist.
The interview was probably about 20 minutes. They told me to wait outside the office and I waited for like 10 minutes then they had me come back in. They gave me a job offer and offered me a wage that was higher than I even said I was expecting. I took it.
The next step was to go home and fill out all your information online so that they can do a background check. Then they contact you to schedule orientation.

Question 1
when is a time you failed to communicate effectively
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Wegmans Food Markets (North Hornell, NY) in Apr 2011
Interview
It was a lot of questions about "if you were in this situation" and "what would you do if" type of questions. The lady was really nice and it was easy to talk with her. I really don't like the sort of questions that are asked now in interviews but I do understand why they ask them. I had no food preparation experience at all but she still offered me the position which was awesome.

They had me answer questions over the phone. I was brought in for a second interview where I cooked a few of my favorite dishes. They gave me an offer a few weeks later.
