They asked a mixture of questions: I had to describe what I was doing in my master's thesis and then I had to some technical questions in topics related to my PhD area.
Why do you want to study at Edinburgh? What are your interests in science? What is your past experience?
Will be bespoke as they will be on your presentation of a past research project. Interviewers were genuinely interested in my past research & asked good questions.
No interview.
First got questions about my work, then about how it relates to the project I was applying too. Later I asked questions specific to a couple of prior experiences (I was quitting current phd student position to join the new one: what tells us you won't do the same?). They concluded asking me how I approach a research question and what I look in a related-work paper.
