Abengoa has an environmental interest in engineering. The company develops environmentally sustainable projects with a focus on solar energy, bioenergy, sea water desalination, and waste recycling and management. It provides engineering and industrial construction services to the energy, telecommunications, transportation, water, and environmental industries in more than 70 countries worldwide. Abengoa also controls Spanish aluminum and steel-dust recycling company Befesa Medio Ambiente and US-based ethanol producer Abengoa Bioenergy Corp. The Benjumea family controls about 56% of Abengoa.
