The firm does business primarily in its home country of Spain, where it is a top insurer, and in about 40 other nations, including many in North and South America. Individual and group offerings include funeral, home, medical, and agricultural insurance. It additionally provides financial services such as investment and pension funds. MAPFRE also maintains a very successful alliance with Spanish banking company Caja Madrid through which the companies cross-market each other's products.
