Pros

Working at AECOM makes it easy to jump (a sinking) ship when a better opportunity arrives.

Cons

Seriously where should I start.......there is just tooooo much to cover here. If you want to be treated with any ounce of respect you are dreaming. When asking some senior staff questions regarding a project they just turn you down straight away. No one really has any time for you as they are too paranoid about hitting utilization targets. Top management talks about refocusing the company from utilization to a more "innovative" way of doing business but that is just a corporate talk. Group leaders are more concerned about reporting revenue figures, share price movements and meeting billable hour figures for workers (to protect themselves of course) than the actual day to day work produced. Time and time again you are expected to meet unrealistic projects budgets project mangers set just to win bids. Morale in the office is low and you often hear the 'workers' complaining about management. AECOM introduced a new management system intended to streamline projects however at the end of the day everyone is expected to become a project manager. AECOM should be, as its name refers to, an engineering company- in reality however its an organisation full of project managers doing sums.

Pros

Remarkable HR and communications organization that is able to convince scores of high-caliber professionals to join the firm. Colleagues and peers are generally solid, well intentioned folks like yourself.

Cons

Investment Banking hours, civil service compensation, San Quentin culture. The best indicator of a firm's health is "would you recommend [AECOM] to a friend?" I wouldn't recommend it to a stranger.

Pros

Global company with opportunities for people with specialized technical skills.

Cons

Don't expect loyalty beyond your immediate manager. I was transferred from Minneapolis to Australia with my family and then was laid off. The company wouldn't bring me or any of the others back to a job in the United States. Our former managers were sympathetic but did not help find us new positions. We were on our own. It isn't easy to have you 5 year old starting kindergarten in Brisbane and explaining to him we are pulling him out of school and don't know what country we are going to next. I ended up going to work with a competitor and have done very well since then. Don't expect anything from this company beyond what they are required by law to do, such as a paycheck. Being fair, this seems to be the mindset amongst the engineering consulting business in general nowadays.
