AECOM a Great Fast-Paced Company with never a dull moment

Pros

AECOM is a really great company that re-morphs every 2-4 years due to it's growth and evolving shape to drive and manage this. I joined 3+ yrs ago and have loved it ever since. YES it is hard work and sometimes I wish the pace was slower but honestly that would bore me. If you are prepared to work hard and evolve yourself as the company grows then you will love working for AECOM. I have a great boss and work with really skilled and dedicated professional people around me too. The constantly evolving shape always presents new exciting challenges locally and globally as we deliver mega projects for our clients.

Cons

In our business line we work hard and play hard, sometimes this is tiring and we need to fight to keep a work life balance which is important for us all. Sometimes the IT and system lag behind the growth curve but that's normal I think in a company that grows faster than it's competitors, just another hurdle to adapt to. Salaries could always be higher, true, but it's more important that you enjoy the role you do and the team you work in long term.

Pros

- Genuine commitment to sustainability - Strong policies on discrimination and equality - I work in a fantastic, supportive and social team - Working on, and being surrounded by, exciting, inspirational projects

Cons

- Can feel disconnected from the wider company occasionally but less so these days - We do work for "defence" companies in the US, and horrendous oil companies worldwide, which makes me feel a bit gross, I wish we didn't but how many companies can afford to take that stand...

Pros

At AECOM you do get exposed to a lot of great, world-renowned projects. Graduates are often thrown in the deep end, which I personally found great. Compensation is also quite good. In the UK at least, the social culture is excellent - I have spoken to a few ex-colleagues who reminisce fondly on the social aspect of working at AECOM, and have not found the grass greener on the other side in that area once moving on. In my team, the work-life balance is superb.

Cons

As might be expected at such a large company which often buys other companies, there are many inefficiencies. I.T. is under-staffed and under-resourced. There also seem to be poor communication channels between the technical workers (engineers, architects, consultants) and the finance staff (PCC, Project Managers). Also, staff are often last to hear major announcements about the company's plans.
