Successful, ambitious, AND a great place to work!

Pros

I've had a very rewarding experience thus far at Allianz -- and recommend the company to anyone who is looking for a high-energy, driven culture in a very cool industry, travel. Allianz has a smart, ambitious culture who take pride in caring for each other as much as they do caring for the customers. (And the customers are huge fans of Allianz with some of the highest Net Promoter Scores of any industry). It's a very unique place, and in my opinion, provides a very healthy work/life balance despite occasional after-hours work. The company had a great year in 2014 and returned many of the profits to its employees, more than ever -- and generous by any standard. I've worked at several different companies throughout my career, large and small, and find Allianz to be surprisingly nimble, well-respected on a global scale, and is simply a great place to work.

Cons

None. Solid company, leadership, and industry.

Pros

The structure of AGA lends itself to upward mobility due to the variety of positions and levels of management needed to operate an insurance company. During my tenure (2007-2010), they seemed to promote a lot from within. They have a relaxed dress code and may positions permit a work-from-home option.

Cons

As growth has stabilized, they have definitely focused on the bottom line. I have seen many high level positions not back-filled, which basically spreads more work around. Since the new CEO took office, there has been almost 100% turnover on the executive board.

Company has peaked

Pros

What was once the best features of this company, the building, has now become very overcrowded because of job outsourcing and cost cutting measures. Nice coworkers but turnover is high and most of the best people are gone or going now that economy is better.

Cons

Single business line that is under pressure and investigation by regulators, smaller profits and fewer customers; top management is not impressive or strategic but is operations oriented and focused on cutting costs; culture is corporate, sterile and doesn't live up to its values; heavy internal bureaucracy, even for an insurance company, and control from overseas parent company. Excessive workloads in some areas; favoritism in promotions, little support. Average pay and below average benefits. Work that was once a joy has now become just a job.
